Here at the African American Leadership and Policy Institute, our mission is to serve as a catalyst for positive change in the African American community. We aim to be leading advocates for social justice, education, workforce development, and economic opportunity for African Americans. Our Institute is dedicated to the betterment of the community, and we are proud to offer programs and initiatives that will empower individuals and strengthen the community.
Our Research
At AALPI, our research focuses on addressing structural inequality and empowering the African American community. We use a unique approach to generate new knowledge, advocate for specific policy and practice changes, and serve as a resource for policymakers and civic leaders. Our theory of change revolves around addressing the problem of prioritization and focuses on the conditions of structural inequality in the policy environment of the Chicago metropolitan region. We visualize the structural components and interactions of a policy area through logic modeling, which represents our theory of change. AALPI's commitment to enacting the policy priorities of the African American community and our focus on coalition building and reliable policy research set us apart in the industry. Our research and advocacy capacity aims to influence the prioritization of policy issues and highlight the core processes at work in policy implementation and the barriers that inhibit implementation. We are dedicated to providing research that is both rigorous and relevant to the African American community.
The African-American Leadership and Policy Institute (AALPI) is an independent community–based public policy and research organization created to foster equitable and lasting solutions to the most pressing challenges facing African Americans, here in Chicago and in the region.
